Today Tully and I went shopping in Breckenridge and at the Silver Thorne Outlet mall. We found a few good deals. When we got back to Georgetown we drove around the little town and came across this great bench.

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve
July 5
Today we visited the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. What an amazing place! Tully and I had fun jumping over the edge of one of the smallest dunes. If you are ever in Southeast Colorado, it’s worth the 32 mile round trip to see this fascinating natural phenomenon.

We ended our day in Durango with Andrew and Michelle joining us. The 5 of us had a wonderful dinner at Ken and Sue’s where a surprise barber quartet pleasantly surprised us.

July 4Sanborn Western Camps
We slept in today and then headed to Sanborn Western Camps. Sanborn is where Tully fell in love with Colorado and discovered herself and her passion for life. She showed us all around camp and introduced us to all of her friends. Sanborn is truly a magical place.

Mt. Elbert is the highest mountain in Colorado, the highest in the Rocky Mountains at 14,440 Ft.
Tully and I started our day at 3AM and were on the road to Mt. Elbert trailhead by 3:15. We needed to start this early to summit before afternoon thunderstorms move in. According to the trail book we have it's a 10 hour round trip adventure.
We didn't reach tree line before the sunrise, but still enjoyed a beautiful site.
We finally made it to tree line at about 7 AM. What a beautiful view! We had an awesome view of Mt. Massive, which is the 2nd highest peak in CO.
At about 9 AM, the altitude got the best of me. I was full of thoughts about why I was doing this, worried that I was going to hold Tully back from getting to the summit, and worried that we were going to get caught out in the open in a thunder storm. I decided to send Tully ahead and turn back. She made it to the summit at about 10 AM.
